Where to Stay in the Seychelles: Mahé Island

The main island of Mahé – just 26km long – is forested and surrounded by exquisite beaches. Up until the 1990s, modest guesthouses and small, locally owned properties were the most popular form of accommodation on the main islands. Although there are now plenty of international hotel brand options, we knew we wanted something intimate and special.

Set close to Port Glaud and just 15 km from Seychelles International Airport, this beautiful property is surrounded by Morne Seychelles National Park and offers direct access to Sauzier Waterfall.

Each one of the seven rooms has a king-size bed, a private balcony with stunning views, a TV, and a kitchenette.

But the most spectacular part of staying here is the garden and outdoor swimming pool. You can easily spend long, lazy days surrounded by lush foliage and nothing but the sounds of the rainforest.

Verdict: Villa Vanilla is an Eden – a place that makes the real world feel a long way away.
